Jay Servidio Thinks .XXX is .BAD
On Friday, ICANN, the not-for-profit corporation that coordinates the internet's naming system, voted to allow the application of the controversial ".xxx" top-level domain name for sites that display adult content. The domain, which would need further approval before going live on the internet, would be applied to adult entertainment sites just as ".com" is now. The .xxx internet suffix, which was first proposed six years ago by ICM Registry, a group that sells domain names, "will provide a place online for adult entertainment providers and their service providers who want to be part of our voluntary self regulatory community," So they say. How does the adult internet community benefit from this? The short answer is they dont. They now have to shell out 60.00 for a domain name when they can get a .com or a .net for 7.00. They have to build new sites and launch them which could take months and for what? Orginizations, groups and governments against online porn can block all .xxx sites from servers and ISP's. The moral majority people benefit for sure. But how does the adult internet community benefit. They dont. ICM benefits because they get to sell domains for 60.00 a pop and rake in tens of millions of dollars a year. Who is ICM? Why arent existing registrars like Network Solutions and Go Daddy being allowed to offer the new domains? How do we know ICM has the infrastructure to offer these services? What about the legal headaches from people who dont own a .com verison trying to get the .xxx version? I started Teleteria in 1994 and I have seen it all because I have been in it since the begining. This is pure power politics. In a word graft. Someone at ICM lobbied hard and someone got a metal suitcase filled with cash. Corruption 101 forget the public good pay me and you can do whatever you want. BP should hire ICM for some PR work or have they already? At Teleteria, we have been building adult sites since 1994. The entire point of my company is to give the average person the ability to make great profits working from home. This change will give ICM millions of dollars of income that should be going in the pockets of average citizens. This is an outrageous corrupt attempt to reach into our pockets and give nothing in return. I am Jay Servidio and thats my story.
